THE UNMENTIONED CONTRIBUTOR

When you look down through the annals of time, and see the ornaments bestowed upon the man when
he has played his role and greatness is conferred upon him, there is unmentioned a contributor, whose
strong stance is not discouraged by obstacle, perpetual in her desire, and against all odds she wanes
not-no matter how much pressing she does.

The echoes in the wind proclaim that she is indeed the matriarch. To some people she is a mother, a
sister, a grandmother, a friend, and to others she is an auntie, a cousin, a niece, a daughter, a wife, and
without doubt she is the backbone of our lives. If blessings have to be voiced, it is at such a time as this,
when we commemorate Women’s Day on 8th March each year. A blessing for that woman who carried
you in her womb and took care of you until such a time when it was told that a child had been born. A
blessing to her sister, your aunty, or a distant relative who was excited to learn that you were on your
way. A blessing to a nurse, who went an extra mile in her work to ensure that you were delivered safely.
A blessing to your grandmothers without whom your parents wouldn’t be. A blessing to your female
classmates for being an embodiment of calmness, humility, love and care. A blessing to those women
who are experts in ululations for they filled the atmosphere with excitement as it was announced that a
child had been born, a potential president, a potential doctor, a potential teacher, or a potential police
officer. For in their mind they projected a bright future for your arrival. They expected and believed the
future to look bright.

Our hands are raised and we clap to applaud our women whom we consider our heroines, for their
influence. So we lift our voice to say we love you and most importantly, we look ahead as the largely
untapped potentials unfold and opportunities are seized, that await future generations of women.

Thank you Brighton, for the beautiful text. You are amazing in every single way!

Yours truly,
Ebba

 Brighton.
